Laser Tattoo Removal Consultations: What to Expect

Before undergoing a medical procedures, a consultation is typically the first step. Consultations provide potential patients with all of the information they need to make a decision on whether they wish to undergo a procedure or not.  If you have been considering undergoing laser tattoo removal, why not go to a consultation first?  Many laser tattoo removal studios offer a free consultation as a service to the potential patient.  The goal of the consultation is to help educate the patient on the procedure and make the patient more comfortable with the procedure.  A patient can typically expect to cover the following things during a laser tattoo removal consultation:

1- Examination of the patient's tattoo: During the consultation the laser tattoo removal staff and doctor(s) will examine the patient's tattoo, taking note of the tattoo's size, placement on the patient's body, the ink used in the tattoo and the patient's skin type.  All of those factors will determine how well the patient will take to the laser tattoo removal procedure.  Laser tattoo removal does not produce the same exact results for everyone. Some patient's take to laser tattoo removal much better than others.  The examination of the tattoo is very important to helping the doctor(s) assess how good the outcome will be from undergoing the procedure.

2- Goals: The tattoo removal staff, or doctor(s), will discuss with the patient what they are expecting to gain from the procedure, or the goals of the procedure.  Believe it or not, but goals are not the same for everyone when it comes to laser tattoo removal.  Some patients are simply looking to remove a small part of a tattoo, to lighten a tattoo, partially remove a tattoo or fully remove a tattoo. Depending on what the patient's goals are, the removal staff must know the goal so that they can act accordingly and deliver the right amount of treatment.  A full removal of a tattoo obviously will take more treatments than a partial removal.  Goals are a part of what will help determine how many sessions are needed.

3- Benefits and risks associated with the procedure: With every medical procedure comes the benefits and risks associated with the procedure.  As with most medical consultations, the removal staff or doctor(s) will address the benefits and risks associated with laser tattoo removal.  The goal is to help the patient understand what to expect from the procedure.

4- Outcome: During the consultation the removal staff or doctor(s) should be able to address what they feel the outcome will be for the patient if he or she is to undergo laser tattoo removal.  They will be able to come up with a plan for the patient which will include how many treatments will be needed to remove the tattoo.  From here a plan is put into place and the patient will have a clear idea of what to expect from the procedure and will have a better understanding of what the outcome will be from the procedure.

5- Questions: As a laser tattoo removal studio, we always tell our patients to ask any and all questions they have regarding the procedure.  Consultations are the time to ask all of your questions. Usually the removal staff or doctor(s) will encourage questions throughout the entire consultation to ensure that the patient fully understands what to expect from the procedure.
