What You Need To Do After Your Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

Laser tattoo removal is a serious procedure. The experience and results varies from patient to patient. Most studios will give detailed instruction for post care after laser treatment but there are general tips that everyone can benefit from. Those looking to remove tattoos should learn about what is expected and how to care for the treated area before they start their laser treatment.

First things first.Blisters are normal and expected after laser tattoo removal. The blisters are a part of the healing process and clients should allow their blisters to heal on their own. It is not advised to pick at the scabs and or blisters. This can cause infection as well as irritation to the skin. The best thing to do is to have treated area covered and to apply ointment 3 times each day.

Things to avoid include excessive time in water, sun and other skin irritants such as lotions, creams and balms. Oils in creams can cause the area to react in negative ways so only use ointment given to you by the doctor at the tattoo removal studio you choose.

When taking showers, keep the area as dry as possible and limit shower length. It is best to avoid baths, pools, hot tubs and any other activity that would include getting the treated are moist for an extensive amount of time. After exposing the area to water, pat dry slowly and avoid rubbing, this can cause the blisters to pop or peel and result in scaring.

Some people experience pain in the treated area. For this we suggest a cool compress and Tylenol. Antibacterial cream is not needed unless prescribed to treat infection by a doctor after the treatment.

If for any reason the area begins to bleed or show signs of extensive irritation it is important to seek medical help. These could be signs of infection or reactions that will not be helped by ointment. Always seek professional medical help in any cases where there is bleeding, or extreme pain .

Staying healthy is vital to the healing process both before, after and during tattoo removal. Avoiding smoke and other substances that can lower your immune system. To protect the skin from sun it is also recommended that people use sunscreen that is at least SPF 25 or higher as the area will be extremely sensitive. Staying hydrated is helping your skin heal & is vital to the success of laser tattoo removal.
Overall people that have recently had laser tattoo removal treatment or are going to be treated should work on increasing the strength of their immune system and be proactive about staying healthy during the lengthy process.

The History Behind Tattoo Removal

Tattoo Removal History

Tattoos have been gracing the bodies of humans for over five thousand of years. For almost as long people have tried to remove them. With advancement in laser technology it easier than ever before to remove tattoos.

While the results vary from person to person and no laser removal is 100% guaranteed, the latest advancements have created processes in reducing pain and damage to the skin. Our clients at ERASE  have reported great stories after treatment with the Asclepion TattooStar Effect Laser featured in the photo above. This amazing laser has advanced technology that allows us to remove tattoo's more efficiently and more effectively for our clients.

Tattoo history is extensive and have been found in many cultures around the world going as far back as 300 BC. Some of evidence includes a discovery in Eurasian near the Alps on "Otzi the Iceman". Other ethnic groups including those of German and Celtic origins had tattoos as far as 2nd millennium BC.

Tattoo removal has always been something people around the world have attempted to do but not until now have they been truly successful at doing so. In the past people tried often-extreme processes to remove unwanted tattoos. This included dermabrasion, TCA, which removes the top layer of skin through the use of chemical acid, and lastly Sal abrasion, which is the process of removing the top layer of skin with salt. All of these past tattoo removal processes were extremely painful and did not create enough results for many people to continue.

Often people who had tattoo regret or bad tattoos were forced to live with them for the rest of their lives. With this came home remedies and creams that some still try to use to this day. The most popular of those included a mixture of garlic, lime and wine and some even attempted to remove tattoos with pigeon excrement. Again, these did not truly remove the tattoo. Home remedies, cremes and balms can not go deep enough into the skin to break up the ink particles of the tattoo and often misrepresent results. There are now many products which claim to remove tattoos but unfortunately there is only one medical lotion that is FDA approved. This cream needs to be prescribed by a doctor and is not often recommend.

In the 90's the Q-switched laser began introducing people to professional laser tattoo removal. From then on the technology only kept advancing and improving results of laser treatments.
The treatment amounts and length of sessions continues to get shorter. This allows people to experience less pain and get faster results. While technology has advanced it is important to mention a major reason in success of tattoo removal is not only based on the laser but also the person. Good overall health and immune system is critical in successful tattoo removal.

What You Need To Expect Post Laser Tattoo Removal

 Erase Tattoo Removal Blog

Here at Erase Tattoo Removal we know that Laser Tattoo Removal is a long and sometimes painful process. While everyone reacts to the treatments in different ways there are some things that are typical and should be expected.

If you have recently had  a laser tattoo removal session it is important that you know the proper post care treatment as well as what is normal for this type of procedure.

1) Skin Blisters are normal and part of the healing process. Do NOT pop or peel the blisters as this can cause infection and irruption of the affected area. The specific site of the blisters should be treated with care. It is best to avoid long showers, high water pressure and baths. Try to keep the area dry as much as possible. After a shower it is recommended that you pat dry the area and allow it do dry without rubbing.

2) Tattoo removal can be painful. The lasers work to break up the ink particles but it is up to your body to remove the ink from the skin. To deal with pain we recommend our clients use a cool compress and a non aspirin based Tylenol.

3) When going outdoors it is also recommended to keep the treated area away from the sun and to wear sunscreen that is SPF 25 or higher.

4) Improve your immune system. A few things that will help the skin heal and the body to remove the ink particles is for the client to maintain good health throughout the process. It is important that your immune system is strong and up to the challenge of removing your tattoo and helping your body to heal quickly. Increasing your sleep, water intake and avoiding smoke will have a huge impact on how your skin heals.

Wedding Preparations and Tattoo Removal

Weddings, Tattoos & Brides
Weddings include many preparations and tattoo removal is often part of that preparation process. Brides can be comfortable showing off their tattoos but some may prefer to remove their tattoo pre-wedding. Religious reasons as well as family pressure often make brides have to make some tough choices about their tattoo.
Brides are limited when it comes to tattoos. Cover-ups and air brushing is an option. These options can be costly and can come with the danger of ruining a wedding dress.  On such an important day brides often prefer to not have to worry about movement and want to enjoy the big day with the least amount of worries. Dresses can also cover up the tattoo depending on style. Ultimately it is up to the bride on how to deal with their ink.
Those that choose tattoo removal may have a bigger reason for laser removal. If the tattoo is that of a name of a former partner or a tie to past relationships they may choose to remove the ink pre-wedding.
There are no full proof options and even with tattoo removal there are chances of lasting ink, color changes to the skin and at worst partial removal. Most brides are focused on creating the perfect day. For those that are not whiling to make compromises the solution is laser tattoo removal. Brides then have the ability to choose their dream dress without stress. They are also able to fully enjoy their wedding day.
Factors that should be included in the bride’s decision and preparations should include the size of the tattoo, color of the ink and the brides skin type. When starting to plan for a wedding it is best to make a consultation appointment with a physician and tattoo removal studio as soon as possible. The physician can advise treatment choices and make sure there are no lesions, cancerous growth in that specific area. After a consult with a doctor the next step is to set up a consult with an accredited tattoo removal studios. The doctor at the studio will offer information about laser options based on the brides skin type, size/color of tattoo and overall health of the client.
Some states require tattoo removal studios to have a doctor on staff but some do not. Similarly some states do not require education or experience to handle lasers. It is extremely important to do research and determine which studio has the has a doctor, experienced technicians, a pre-treatment plan and professional services.
Questions to ask:
1)    Is there a Doctor in the clinic?
2)    Is the Staff Trained and Where, Amount of Training?
3)    Years of Experience?
4)    Type of laser(s) used?
5)    What is Pre and Post Treatment Plan Information?

The average expected treatment plan for tattoo removal generally involves at least  6 treatments. These sessions are spaced out between 4 and 6-week intervals. Brides considering removing their tattoos should start the process in the beginning stage of their wedding planning.
