Why People Remove Their Tattoos

 Why Remove A Tattoo

Tattoo regret can be consuming and stressful. While tattoos have grown in popularity, it is not uncommon for people to end up with a tattoo they regret. A handful of those people will end up opting for laser tattoo removal.  For some it may be a simple decision, while others will live with their regrettable tattoo for extended periods of time. So we decided to take a closer look at the reasons why people get laser tattoo removal.

The number one reason why people will choose to go through with tattoo removal is to remove a name of an ex partner. This is an easy decision to make if the relationship ends, and another begins. Having an ex-partners name tattooed on your body can cause friction in new relationships, and often the removal is done pre-wedding to ensure that the marriage starts off on the right foot.

The other top reason people opt for tattoo removal is a lifestyle change. This can be a career change or family life. Tattoos can be great when someone is in their teens or twenties but once people grow older, start careers and families the tattoo that they loved 10 years ago, doesn't fit their current life or represent them in the best of light. While we all hope that discrimination doesn't happen, there are still many jobs that require tattoos be covered and will not hire someone with visible tattoos. Other places will simply not hire or promote individuals with tattoos as part of their company policy. This can have a significant financial impact on people. The choice to remove tattoos becomes easier when faced with joblessness and financial insecurity.

Family life can also have an effect on the choice to remove the ink. New mothers and those parents that have questionable tattoos often opt for removal to avoid uncomfortable conversations with their kids, avoiding stigmatization in with other parents or influencing their children to get tattoos. As the saying goes, "Like mother, like daughter" and mothers and fathers are choosing to get their tattoos removed to set an example for their kids and grand kids.

Another good reason to remove an old tattoo is that you never like it to begin with. Bad artwork can be one of the most driving factors for those that get laser tattoo removal. Having to live with a bad design or poorly executed tattoo can be awful for self esteem and confidence. Depending on where the tattoo is placed, it can become a common subject of ridicule and conversation. At the end of the day, people get tired of hearing about their "bad" tattoo and want to move on with their lives.  Fashion also changes, and the tattoo that someone thought looked great ten years ago was in style at the time. Once the fashion trend ends, the person is left with the tattoo. This can motivate people because they do not want to seem out of touch with trends and do not want an outdated trend on their skin for the rest of their lives. From tribal tattoos to symbols, trends come and go, but tattoos cannot.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people living with tattoo regret and they don't have to be. If you are one of those people, realize that you are not alone and that there are options for you. Don't be embarrassed and contact your local tattoo removal clinic. Many offer online consultations realizing that clients are dealing with embarrassment and emotions triggered by their tattoo. Consulting in this way can help to make it easier for people to make that first step into a life without tattoo regret. Removing a tattoo can take time and money, but it is an investment into your future. We have seen many clients lives and attitudes change drastically because of their tattoo removal. People have cried tears of joy and left our studio overwhelmed by the relief they get from removing that unwanted tattoo.
