Can I Go Out In The Sun While Getting Laser Tattoo Removal?

In the summertime, when the weather is hot! You can stretch right up and touch the sky! -- Well, you can't if you have a tattoo that you don't want to show off. The solution: tattoo removal.

But can you go outside and enjoy the lovely sun when you are getting laser tattoo removal, or even other methods of tattoo removal?

Let's find out.

How does the sun affect laser tattoo removal?
The exposure of the UV rays from the sun will increase the production of vitamin D and melanin in your skin. Vitamin D does many things for the body, such as regulate the immune system, which is important for proper healing during tattoo removal. However, the increased production of melanin in our skin from sun exposure turns the skin either red or tan. This makes the skin more vulnerable and harder to effectively remove the tattoo.

Can I get effective laser tattoo removal after a vacation in the sun?
Likely not, we're afraid. Sorry, friend. Ideally, your skin should be its normal color and your skin out of the sun for six weeks. If your skin is tan, or burned, it can be hard to remove the tattoo because of a lower pain tolerance due to the skin's increased vulnerability, skin tone is off, and it can take more sessions to remove the tattoo.

Will laser tattoo removal be effective on tanned skin?
Somewhat, but definitely not as effective. Why? When your skin is tanned, that is a result of more melanin in your skin; when this happens, it is harder for the laser to break the pigment up. Breaking the pigment up means taking more sessions to get the ink to redistribute through your bloodstream.

Can I go in the sun after treatment?
No, we advocate that you wait around four weeks before exposing the skin to the sun. The recovery time after the treatment is crucial to it being effective; also, if the recovery is not completed correctly, it can lead to scarring and other marks. It'd be best to avoid the sun completely for those four weeks but if you need to go outside, then at least cover that spot up.

What will happen if my removal area is exposed to the sun.
If you expose your skin to the sun after removal, you can get burned, which would be very painful. In addition to that, you can get blisters and broken skin. If you are still going through treatments, it can hinder the effectiveness and the time frame (number of sessions) could be extended.

The Benefits of Getting Laser Tattoo Removal

Erase Tattoo Removal Studio, Oak Brook, IL

Those that are living with tattoo regret can attest to the pains of having something permanent that they wish they could erase. For many these are nagging reminders of past relationships or wild youthful times, but for some they can be mistakes that cost them jobs, relationships and cause friction in their family.

Deciding between tattoo removal and living with tattoo regret can be hard so we decided to weigh the factors and see how someone can really bring value to removing their unwanted tattoo.

The top request we get at our Oak Brook, IL tattoo removal studio is for name removal. It is not uncommon for people to make a romantic gesture and end up living with a mistake for many years after the romance is gone. This mistake can have a negative effect on their relationships and even causing them to experience social anxiety and depression.

Often people feel that the only way they can completely move forward with their lives after a situation like this is by removing their tattoo for good. This process can bring relief and hope to those getting over their relationship or having problems with a new partner who doesn’t appreciate the old tattoo. We have seen clients who were relieved to the point of tears and thrilled that they made the choice to remove their old tattoo after living with years of regret. The value in those tears is not measurable.

Another top reason people remove their unwanted tattoo is for career or professional reasons. A large group of people who come into ERASE studio got their first tattoo in their teens or during their twenties. At the point they decide to get the tattoo people made uninhibited choices and tend to be more carefree. As people mature and begin to focus more on career or family life, they also may start to feel like their tattoo is not fitting their current lifestyle or position in life.

While tattoos have begun to become something that is more mainstream there are still a growing number of professional environments that do not appreciate them as much as modern culture.

Tattoo removal studios like ERASE see clients daily that have moved past their youthful tattoos and would like to remove them for good, so they can move forward with their lives and careers. While some places may not hire people with visible tattoos, other times people can be held back from promotions and other situations where they or their career would benefit and not even know it. This is a huge reason why people choose laser tattoo removal and invest into their personal future. One of the biggest benefits to removing a visible tattoo is that you know you will never be limited by or discriminated against for this tattoo in the future.

Why People Remove Their Tattoos

 Why Remove A Tattoo
Erase Tattoo Removal

Tattoo regret can be consuming and stressful. While tattoos have grown in popularity, it is not uncommon for people to end up with a tattoo they regret. A handful of those people will end up opting for laser tattoo removal.  For some it may be a simple decision, while others will live with their regrettable tattoo for extended periods of time. So we decided to take a closer look at the reasons why people get laser tattoo removal.

The number one reason why people will choose to go through with tattoo removal is to remove a name of an ex partner. This is an easy decision to make if the relationship ends, and another begins. Having an ex-partners name tattooed on your body can cause friction in new relationships, and often the removal is done pre-wedding to ensure that the marriage starts off on the right foot.

The other top reason people opt for tattoo removal is a lifestyle change. This can be a career change or family life. Tattoos can be great when someone is in their teens or twenties but once people grow older, start careers and families the tattoo that they loved 10 years ago, doesn't fit their current life or represent them in the best of light. While we all hope that discrimination doesn't happen, there are still many jobs that require tattoos be covered and will not hire someone with visible tattoos. Other places will simply not hire or promote individuals with tattoos as part of their company policy. This can have a significant financial impact on people. The choice to remove tattoos becomes easier when faced with joblessness and financial insecurity.

Family life can also have an effect on the choice to remove the ink. New mothers and those parents that have questionable tattoos often opt for removal to avoid uncomfortable conversations with their kids, avoiding stigmatization in with other parents or influencing their children to get tattoos. As the saying goes, "Like mother, like daughter" and mothers and fathers are choosing to get their tattoos removed to set an example for their kids and grand kids.

Another good reason to remove an old tattoo is that you never like it to begin with. Bad artwork can be one of the most driving factors for those that get laser tattoo removal. Having to live with a bad design or poorly executed tattoo can be awful for self esteem and confidence. Depending on where the tattoo is placed, it can become a common subject of ridicule and conversation. At the end of the day, people get tired of hearing about their "bad" tattoo and want to move on with their lives.  Fashion also changes, and the tattoo that someone thought looked great ten years ago was in style at the time. Once the fashion trend ends, the person is left with the tattoo. This can motivate people because they do not want to seem out of touch with trends and do not want an outdated trend on their skin for the rest of their lives. From tribal tattoos to symbols, trends come and go, but tattoos cannot.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people living with tattoo regret and they don't have to be. If you are one of those people, realize that you are not alone and that there are options for you. Don't be embarrassed and contact your local tattoo removal clinic. Many offer online consultations realizing that clients are dealing with embarrassment and emotions triggered by their tattoo. Consulting in this way can help to make it easier for people to make that first step into a life without tattoo regret. Removing a tattoo can take time and money, but it is an investment into your future. We have seen many clients lives and attitudes change drastically because of their tattoo removal. People have cried tears of joy and left our studio overwhelmed by the relief they get from removing that unwanted tattoo.

Do You Need Help Deciding Between A Cover Up And Tattoo Removal ?

Trying to decide what to do with that tattoo you regret can be difficult. While the idea of laser tattoo removal can be daunting and a commitment, cover-ups are often the second best option.  Your decision may be dependent on the size, color and age of the tattoo in question and your lifestyle.

People come to our tattoo removal studio for many reasons. All of them are experiencing tattoo regret but not all of them dislike tattoos. We see many people who have simply outgrown their tattoo of choice while others have outgrown tattoos in general. Whatever the reason behind your decision is people always should learn all of their options before making a commitment. Both tattoo removal and a cover up tattoo is a commitment.

Tattoo removal can be costly and time consuming but will lead to a result that will forever remove the ink.  There will no longer be an opportunity for regret or discrimination.  Those who choose to have laser tattoo removal this can be a huge relief. The people who have the most to loose are those with careers or jobs that don’t allow ink.  For them the decision becomes easier and is generally thought of as an investment. It is also refreshing to know that there is no longer a feature on your body that you can feel regret over.

While cover-ups can cover a regrettable tattoo, there is no guarantee that a cover up tattoo will not be something that you regret years down the line. If you do decide to cover up a tattoo, realize that this tattoo becomes even more difficult to remove with a laser later on.

People who are interested in getting a cover up tattoo may also want to consider partial tattoo removal before they get started with their cover up. This will not only help to make their new tattoo look better but allows more freedom for the artist doing the work. Some tattoo parlors will ask that clients looking to get cover up tattoos get some laser tattoo removal pre-cover up to ensure that the new tattoo is not something regrettable while others will work around the old tattoo.

Depending on the tattoo you are trying to cover up, laser removal can be expected to be anywhere form 1-3 sessions. This is decided upon looking at the tattoo itself and identifying the size, color and age of the tattoo.

An important thing to keep in mind after the consolations is that the success of your laser treatments is predominately based on your health. Anyone looking to get laser tattoo removal treatment, even partially should take time to grow their immune system and practice healthy living habits to get the best results. The laser works to break down the ink, but the body is what does the work of consuming and discarding the broken ink particles. Don’t have a healthy body, expect to see less results from laser tattoo removal and extra treatment sessions.

The best thing to do when trying to decide between a cover up and laser tattoo removal is to make a consultation with a tattoo removal studio and a professional tattoo studio.  They can give you all the options based on your tattoo and you can then make an educated and informed decision. Not only will you save yourself time and money, but you are less likely to feel the tattoo regret that you are facing going in.

Illinois Now Offers Victims Of Trafficking Relief Through Tattoo Removal

Erase Tattoo Removal Blog

Illinois and New Hampshire are two states that are enacting laws to help provide relief to human trafficking victims. Chicago is a major hub for human trafficking in the US. Chicago is the main location for illegal trafficking because of the proximity to two major airports as well as its central location in the United States. Victims are often flown in and then moved outside of the area via car, bus or train. The large population and centralized location offers traffickers many options to conceal their illegal activity as well as routes to traffic people to multiple nearby cities and states.

Human trafficking is a federal crime and state legislators and Attorney Generals office's have decided to do something about the problem, as well as offer more support to victims caught in this situation. One ways the state of Illinois is offering help to these victims is by compensating the cost of laser tattoo removal and offering victims a way to move forward with their lives, free of the tattoos that their trafficker placed on their body.

Illinois currently has a Crime Victims Compensation Law, which specifies trafficking victims can be compensated for their laser tattoo removal through an outreach program. The law works with the Crime Victims Compensation fund,  run by the office of Attorney General Lisa Madigan. The goal is to help provide service and support to crime victims in Illinois and Chicagoland area by providing compensation, therapy services, and advocacy during legal procedures.

The Crime Victims Compensation Law covers “pecuniary loss” caused by the crimes which includes laser tattoo removal in any studio in the state. The website states that the Fund  “provides direct financial
assistance to innocent victims of violent crime to reimburse out-of-pocket expenses related to the crime.”

Laser tattoo removal is covered and victims will be compensated for 100% of the cost of tattoo removal once the claim is submitted to the State Attorney office. The process to initialize the compensation is to fill out a form on the Attorney Generals website www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/victims/. You can also call 1-800-228-3368 for more information on Tattoo Removal Compensation.

For many victims it may be difficult to discuss the crime committed against them and because of this they may be hesitant to seek out consultations. Our online consult system offers people a private and discreet way to consult the Tattoo Removal Studio without having to go into the studio or go into any explanations about the history of their tattoo. Simple and easy, we can offer guidance, pricing and overall cost information for those looking to have their tattoo removed. If you or someone you know is looking to remove a tattoo related to a crime, feel free to contact us on our website and we will offer you all the information for your consult in a discreet way.

How To Care For Your Skin In Winter Months

The cold weather is coming and it will be affecting your immune systems and skin. Since the tattoo removal process is stretched out, some people may be getting their tattoo removed during the cold season. When it comes to tattoo removal, it is very important to keep up on healthy habits. Being proactive about your health and skin will ensure the best outcome.

The immune system is the key to removing your unwanted ink. The lasers break up the ink and the body does the rest of the work. If the your immune system and skin system is not healthy and strong, you will inhibit its ability to the job.

We encourage all of our clients to be proactive with their skin care during and post treatment. By doing these simple things, they are going to get the best results from their laser tattoo removal and have an overall better tattoo removal experience.

Winter skin care routines should change slightly from summer time. Just as in summer months, it is encouraged to apply skin protection from the sun. Protecting your skin from UV rays is important during tattoo removal and should be at least 25 SPF or more. Ample moisture is important as well. Skin dries during the cold months and there are a several things people can do to help their skin stay moisturized. Adding a humidifier to the house, applying lotions and staying hydrated are some examples. For those removing tattoos, lotion should always be approved by the doctor at your tattoo removal studio of choice.  On top of drinking plenty of fluid, extra tea's like Green Tea or Chamomile tea can be added. Both have been proven to help increase immunity and good health.  People can also increase foods with high water content. Examples of this can be fruits and veggies like melons, berries and lettuce.

To insure the immune system is being supported additional supplements of Vit. C, E and D can be used during winter months. People interested in adding supplemental support to their diet should consult their physician.  The lack of sun during winter and shorter hours decreases the amount of Vitamin D in our bodies. Vitamin C can help boost the overall immune system and the Vitamin E supports healthy skin.   Some may also want to add live probiotic supplements or increase the amount of foods with live active cultures like yogurt. These are great for your overall health and act in supporting the digestive & immune systems.

The basic daily habits of people going through laser tattoo removal should not be overlooked; getting lots of sleep and exercising is important in the winter time as we decrease the amount of outdoor actives we participate in. Last but not least, smoking and drinking alcohol can decrease your immunity in huge ways, so avoiding these things is a good idea. They will not only make your skin healthier or support the body as it removes the ink throughout your treatments.

Ultimately being proactive about your skin care and health will lead to better results from your laser tattoo removal treatments and who doesn't want that?
